YES, WE CAN CAN (1830s)
It’s Monday, November 4th, 2024
Emotions are whirling in whispers of the devil
And we are reminded not to stoop to their level
By the time you are reading this
we know the outcome
Regardless, I prepare my work to go either way
when the election is done
So I draw on the times when we, women, began to
provoke and poke fun
We played with the idea of liberation as if it
was ours
and we have already won
No man holding our tongue
In sync, dresses soaring
highest notes to be sung
Upsetting him and he
Now on stage
the world’s most famous dance to see
Between Moulin Rouge and Radio City
So either way we swing
after one more night’s rest
May we remember
we have always
found a way to freedom
through what we each
individually
do best
