SYNTHETIC INC. (1939)
He knew what he was doing
A chemical test and “poof” nylon was invented
An experiment
reinforcing the fabric of social oppression
Created to run and disintegrate
A garment women could not live without
And without
public shame
perpetuating hate
The synthetic fibers becoming our nature to claim
As many pairs as we can afford
An end that must be met
God forbid they’re battered and torn
Without, we have every reason to fret
They run and there’s no turning back
Where are they sent to fray?
Why, filling the land and sea
with microplastics of synthet hosiery
Contributing to the waste and poison
destroying our planet
our minds, and our bodies
with every new invent
