MALE GAZE (1949)
This is a man’s world
Where a woman is hoisted up by crane
Beside a 2-ton, 35-foot plaster leg
Meant to for her, but it’s for him
1949
Nylons are back on the market post-war
Women are at home on chores
Their husbands under a Hollywood model’s skirt
anticipating a run or something torn
All for the wife, of course
He must ensure the new nylons by that guy are comfortable tights
Thank heavens for Marie Wilson’s sacrifice
For the greater good, a product reaching new heights
Stomach in knots
Better than ever
At the tippy top
No matter the weather
We suffocate again
Vulnerable before his prying eyes
Nylons are back
The average American man
The indefinite voyeur on watch
The system that perpetuates deadly feminine fees
Collapsing our knees
The system is the Patriarchy
